Congratulations Peter. There’s no question that Democracy IS for sale & you’re playing a great & often unsung part in the deeply unglamorous, I’m sure, job of saving it.
My concern…do you think Starmer & Co will have enough of a pair to land these recommendations?
Thanks so much, Andy. I was heartened to see Labour straight off the bat accepting the recommendations on crypto and curbing foreign funding. But the big question now is whether Starmer really takes the opportunity to cap all donations. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see more Labour MPs coming out calling for this….
Congratulations, Peter, and above all a huge thank you for doing such incredibly valuable work for our democracy. I am really happy that you have succeeded and earned the respect you richly deserve.
Great news. Democracy For Sale does have a loud enough voice. Now what worries me is Palantir and those types installing software into all our systems. I've heard that Starmer is sold on it. Even though the sellers were lobbyist for it. If it's taken out it's not really gone because the core remains, which could mean they keep collecting data and possibly selling it to the highest bidder. They don't have any allegiance to any country in particular. Putting a cap on donations is paramount in a democracy and keeping crypto currency out is essential. It's a speculative currency. If it fails does the government use our taxes to bail them out? The belief in some governments is it's "too big to fail" like the crash in the US in 2008. Now we're finding that Epstein and others manufactured that crash and got all their money but people with mortgages lost their homes. Just gone! How do we protect ourselves against these backroom boys. I know it's a lot to ask but I'd appreciate it if you could interview somebody that has the answers.
Seismic but Im a wee bit sceptical it will happen. I have a deja vu feeling about these things that sound too good to be true. But here's hoping with all I can muster. We sure as heck need it. But what will be the elephant sized loopholes? It is likely to come full of holes with escape chutes. It will need some careful scrutiny but will it happen? I'd like to be optimistic but I think it is a trick and a carefully crafted plan by the man that has gone from the headlines but Morgan MacSweeney is a trouble maker and a meddler, like Mandelson.
I am very pleased to see this. American democracy appears to have been poisoned by financial greed and corruption. It is not clear that America can ever agaon be a country where the vote of ordinary people can count. It has been worrying to see American oligarchs seeking power in the UK.They have been very active also in the impending Hungarian elections and no doubt elsewhere. I was delighted to see the determinstion of Peter Geoghegan. This is vital.

Fantastic to see persistent journalism and sustained activism deliver significant progress.
A matter of principle or an act of self defence?

Cleaning up politics is no easy task given gifts to politicians, cash for access, revolving doors. Keep shining your torch into those dark corners.

I agree. We should keep the pedal to the metal until we see results.
Well done Pete G. A guardian of truth, freedom and democracy. We need you. Take good care of yourself.
