I wonder if Hungary's elections will be fair? As Putin told little dick aka trump, it doesn't matter who the people vote for, it's who counts the vote! If Orban is beaten then maybe there's a chance that the far right parties in Britain and the USA will fall too. Though the amount of grift the Hungarian and American leaders have done between them, their countries will probably be saddled with humongous debt, which is going to make it hard for a left of centre party to get a hold of inflation etc. Still turning that corner has to start somewhere. I can only hope.
Very informative on the networks funded by Orban's government to spread his autocratic extreme rightwing views across Europe and into the US . I have joined up while I can afford it because of this piece and the other great work that Peter has done.
So Orban is being used by Russia to fund the destabilisation of the west by promoting wing-nuts and grifters, politely called the right-wing. Is that right?
This bit made me laugh:
"Furedi’s trajectory – from the Marxist far left to a Budapest-funded operation focused on opposing migration, net-zero policy and EU progressive funding streams – is not completely unique. His long time collaborator Claire Fox was put into the House of Lords by Boris Johnson."
Not at all unique. The Revolutionary Communist Party is very much alive. The borg-mind organisation (aka The Church of Frank Furedi) has completely remodelled itself since the 70s. The original members are still very active but instead of standing on street corners looking earnest and hopeless they work to infiltrate media and create astroturfed, pseudo grass-roots organisations such as The Together Declaration to spread culture wars, anti-regulation, pro free-speech, anti-liberal (democracy), anti-lockdown, pro right-wing populism, pro-Reform, anti-netzero, anti-climate change (and more) stuff. The organisation's shop front is Spiked Online and their 'members' write for the Telegraph, The Spectator and just about any right-wing publication that will have them.
Revolutionary Communists they are not. Influential? Well, much, much more than they used to be. One is in the House of Lords, one runs the Brussels wing of Orban's Russian funded think thank and one was a key aid to Boris Johnson for 14 years, served as Director of the Number 10 Policy Unit for 10 years and made a total pigs ear of the report into racism (which rightly disappeared without trace). And the idiot-child Brendan O'Neil's output is depressingly prevalent.
As the nepotist parasite Orban has practically everything under (his) government control, including the media, where the judiciary is politicised and where opposition parties of any stripe are blocked at practically every turn, how can any election in Hungary be considered free and fair? Why has the EU not instituted a system to oust this greedy creep?
Just an observation: Michael Gove is a very right-wing strand running through all extremist organisations in North America and Europe - a kind of extreme right-wing beacon alerting one to beware - Farage et al known and unknown cannot be far behind.
Excellent piece, excellent focus. As ever.

Thanks Steve!
