Thank you for continuing to report on our shrinking/broken democracy. The problem with the solutions you propose are that they depend on Starmer. Realistically, is there any chance he will U-turn and strengthen democracy? His natural instincts are autocratic. Moreover, he really likes money! I worry too about other influences on our democracy, which may or may not involve money, though probably do. Sarah Wilkinson reported this morning, on the Crispin Flintoff show, how the police who interviewed her again this week appeared to have been briefed (and not very well) by Israeli sources. Asa Winstanley alerted us to this kind of influence a while ago. My union (Unite) wouldn’t allow us to discuss his book on their premises. How much of the working of our state has been captured like this?

This is extremely serious. If Musk and Farage can gerrymander our elections in 2029 weeks as a country are lost completely. It may seem a long time in the future but foreign interference in our elections which began with Brexit could see our government full fat fascist aping Trump.

I would have enormous respect and confidence in Starmer's character if he made these important changes, even if he doesn't achieve radical economic growth or eliminating NHS waiting lists

This article provides our country with a timely warning. However, I tend to agree with the comment from Jenifer Devlin. If Keir Starmer were genuinely concerned about the prospect of non-British funds like those of Elon Musk being used to subvert our political system, he would have already acted to prevent this. I cannot fully fathom Starmer's motivations but think that the media moguls hold a lot of dirt on him - notably his undermining democracy in the Labour Party and assisting in the evidence-free character assassination of his predecessor - about which they have chosen to keep quiet.

So now that Musk is bored with mucking around in American politics he’s turned his sights and muckerations on the British political system. Watch out New Zealand and Australia. If he wins in Britain there may be no stoping him. He definitely sees the whole world as HIS oyster to be savored at leisure.
