As I write in the Guardian today, Labour made big promises on cleaning up politics. It must fulfil them or risk real damage and an irretrievable breach of public trust
In any other employment, particularly regulated industries such as financial services, receipt of gifts and entertainment to this level would be regarded as creating a conflict of interest and/or avoiding tax (as a benefit in kind). That our political class believe that they are somehow entitled or exempt, rather demonstrates much that is wrong with, and how deeply money has infected our politics... 🙄
